While some commentators are suspicious of Walmart’s new “Buy Online, Pay In Cash” program, Forbes‘ writer Laura Heller notes that it makes a lot of sense for the so-called “unbanked“:  People who don’t have a regular checking or savings account, but instead rely on check cashing services, payday lenders or pawn shops for cash or loans.

Walmart’s low prices make it an attractive place to shop for those who don’t have much money (the very people who are most likely to be unbanked) and who may not own a car. While ordering online, visiting a store to pay, and then going to home to wait for delivery may seem cumbersome, it may be less difficult than trying to carry a large item on a bus.
